SAP is cooking up something special as we combine creative humans and cutting edge technology at TechCrunch Disrupt 2013 in San Francisco
SAP, what have you done for me lately? How about working with wearable technology to help make you healthier, or using big data analytics and the internet of things to connect the world of people and machines in new and powerful way? Surprised? With the speed of our in-memory database SAP HANA, the connectivity and convenience of mobile devices, and the insight available in big data analytics, the future is here. SAP will be a sponsor at the upcoming TechCrunch Disrupt 2013 in San Francsico (Sep 7-10) and will challenge Hackathon attendees to find a new way of seeing the world of data. For this Challenge, SAP will provide two unique scenarios for participants to get started building the next great thing. Each scenario will contain historical and real-time data feeds accessible from SAP HANA in the cloud, as well as some enrichment data from open sources to provide mashup potential. We are excited to see the results as we combine human ingenuity and technology, along with a little caffeine, to take on these exciting topics.
Scenario One: The internet of things and the connect car using OpenXC data from automobile onboard computers, where developers will explore the world of “Car-2-Business” or “Car-2-Consumer” potential.
Scenario Two: Fitness and Health from wearable technology using FitBit data from personal sensors, where developers can shape fitness and health monitoring in new ways.

The Challenge is simple, create an application (mobile or web app) that incorporates one of the above data sets to provide a new use case for the data benefitting the user with insight or service. Data is provided through APIs from SAP HANA and is available in both static and real-time feeds during the event. Additional open source data feeds will also be offered to enhance the data sets, and the SAP HANA Academy will be contributing some sample code sets and SAP HANA expertise for inspiration.
But wait, there’s more! The winners will receive a trip for two to Las Vegas (airfare/hotel/ meals), including complimentary tickets for SAP’s annual technology conference SAP TechEd, and a chance to present their application to thousands of developers at DemoJam (valued at $7,500). This is a great opportunity to showcase both the innovation and the innovator in front of an audience of SAP developers, customers, partners, industry analysts, executives and more. SAP is always looking for new ideas and new talent. Wouldn’t you like to work with the teams bringing these futuristic ideas to life? These are just two of many exciting things happening at SAP these days. Check us out and you might be surprised!
