[Cricket Match Preview] – 34th Match – Can Narine Contain Maxwell? – Kings XI V Kolkata Knight Riders

The table topping Kings XI Punjab will clash with the Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday afternoon in Cuttack. After finally losing a match of the season in Mumbai, the Kings XI defeated the Super Kings and the Royal Challengers in impressive fashion to cement their place at the top of the Indian Premier Twenty20 tournament table. The Knight Riders recently snapped their four match losing streak and need to gain a pair of points to jump into a tie with the Sunrisers for the the final playoff spot. See how the Kings XI stifled the Knight Riders earlier this season in Abu Dhabi and find out how the teams faired against each other last season. By loading ball by ball match data into SAP HANA we can create informative graphics with SAP Lumira and SAP Crystal Reports to preview the return match between the Kings XI and Knight Riders.

With SAP Lumira we can depict the percentage of runs each team’s batsmen have scored this season by creating a pair of pie charts. The massive lime green slice belongs Kings XI’s Glenn Maxwell, who’s 460 runs is setting an impressive pace for the tournament’s Orange Cap. Robin Uthappa is the highest run getter for KKR and his 256 runs are nearly a quarter of the total runs the Knight Riders have scored this season.

Kolkata’s ace bowler Sunil Narine has regularly flummoxed opposition batsmen, as the West Indian national has conceded only 6.21 runs per over in the 32 overs he has bowled in the tournament. Using SAP Lumira we can create a pie chart of the number of runs each team’s bowlers have conceded with a depth of the number of balls, wides and no balls they tossed to depict the bowling efficiency of each team’s bowlers. Akshar Patel, in blue below, is Punjab’s best bowler as the southpaw orthodox spinner has earned an economy of 6.43 in the 30 overs he has bowled.

Kings XI bowler Sandeep Sharma earned the Man of the Match honor in the first meeting between these sides thanks to his brilliant bowling in which he took a hat trick of wickets. We can create a graphic of the result of each ball Sharma tossed in the 15th match of the 2014 Indian Premier Twenty20 tournament based on the line and length of his deliveries with SAP Crystal Reports. Sharma took all three of his wickets from off stump length balls and delivered seven dots from balls with an outside off stump line.

Can Narine and the rest of KKR’s attack contain Maxwell and the league’s highest scoring team? Or will the Kings XI sweep the season series?
