[Cricket Match Results] – Kings XI Maul Super Kings to Claim Table Crown

The Kings XI electrified the Cuttack crowd by mauling their way to a massive total with boundary after boundary to sweep the season series with the Super Kings and reclaim the top spot in the table with a match in hand. Glenn Maxwell put on another amazing performance in the crease to guide the Kings XI to 231 runs, the highest team score of this tournament. Punjab then took six wickets during their attack to stifle the Super Kings’ chase to win the match by 44 runs. By loading match data into SAP HANA we can create insight-laden visualizations with SAP Lumira and SAP Crystal Reports to analyze Punjab’s victory in this potential playoff preview.

With SAP Lumira we can create a Manhattan chart that shows the number of runs each team scored per over in the match. In eight out of their final 10 overs the Kings XI scored 14 or more runs to greatly elevate their impressive total. Evidenced in the Manhattan chart is Punjab’s effective attack, which held the Super Kings to eight runs or less in 12 overs.

By making a few modifications in SAP Lumira’s intuitive interface we can transform our Manhattan chart into an area chart that shows the number of runs each Kings XI batsman scored per ball in the match. Note the 24 fours and 13 maximums that Punjab smashed as a team. In addition to Maxwell in yellow, Virender Sehwag, David Miller, and George Bailey, in purple, blue, and green respectively below, all had excellent innings by each scoring 30 or more runs and finishing with strike rates north of 130.00. George Bailey finished a fantastic strike-rate of 307.69.

Glenn Maxwell’s 90 runs on 38 balls earned the tournament’s leading run scorer the Man of the Match honor. With SAP Crystal Reports we can dive much further into Maxwell’s incredible innings by creating a wagon wheel that shows the length and trajectory of each of Maxwell’s 30 run scoring shots. Maxwell struck a majority of his sixes with drive shots to his left and collected a few more boundaries with reverse sweeps and leg glances.
