Sitting on 10 points from 12 matches the Sunrisers Hyderabad must win tonight against a Super Kings club that they have yet to ever defeat. The Sunrisers must win, and win big to improve their league worst net run rate, to maintain any glimmer of hope of possibly making the postseason. Having already qualified for the playoff, the Super Kings hope to snap their two match losing streak as another lose would greatly jeopardize their spot in the top qualifier match. Check out how the Super Kings won the first match of the year and find out how they swept last year’s season series. By loading ball by ball match data into SAP HANA we can create insightful visualizations in SAP Lumira and Crystal Reports to preview tonight’s vital match.
With SAP Lumira we can easily create a pair of pie charts that depict the percentage of team runs each team’s batsman have scored this season. The potent Chennai lineup has been lead by Dwayne Smith’s 454 runs (light orange slice), Brendon McCullum’s 380 runs (peach slice), and Suresh Raina’s 360 runs (pink slice) this season. Chennai’s Skipper, MS Dhoni has 223 runs on the season with many coming from clutch, chase clinching shots late in their innings. A noticeable portion of the Sunrisers’ offense has been from David Warner, who’s 434 runs, shown in lime green below, are over a quarter of the total number of Sunrisers runs.
By making a few changes in SAP Lumira’s intuitive interface we can create a pair of bar charts that show the number of wicket each team’s bowlers have taken this season. Hyderabad’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar is currently the tournament’s top wicket-taker, as the bar depicting his 20 wickets in light orange towers over the rest of his team. The Super Kings’ Mohit Sharma is only three scalps away from taking the Purple Cap away from Kumar. Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin have taken 15 and 13 wickets respectively for the Super Kings.
With SAP Crystal Reports we can compare the economies of the Sunrisers’ best bowler, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and the strike-rates of the Super Kings best batsman, Dwayne Smith, broken down by the combinations of line and length of the balls they have delivered and faced. Kumar has found great success with many of his yorkers and length balls this season, with off stump length balls registering as his most efficient delivery, recording an economy of 3.84. Smith has hit well against most length balls but has noticeably struggled against middle of the stump length balls. Will Kumar toss a few of those early in Sunrisers’ attack if he is facing Smith to try to add to this tournament leading wicket total?
Needing to make up so many runs, the Sunrisers batsman will most likely be swinging for boundaries. Will this strategy yield the desired results, or just a lot of costly wickets?
