[Cricket Match Preview] – 54th Match – With Both Caps KKR Seek Seventh Straight – Kolkata Knight Riders V Sunrisers Hyderabad

Hoping to keep their slim chance of extending their season alive, the Sunrisers Hyderabad must win, and win real big in Kolkata tonight if they hope to earn the vacant 4th playoff spot. The Sunrisers will have to completely out-class the red-hot Knight Riders to drastically improve their net run rate to even have an outside shot of qualifying. With a seventh straight win, the Knight Riders would have a good chance of facing the Kings XI in the first qualifier. See how the Knight Riders overhauled the Sunrisers earlier this week and discover how the teams faired against each other last season. By loading match data into SAP HANA we can create informative visualizations with SAP Lumira and SAP Crystal Reports to preview tonight’s dramatic showdown.

With SAP Lumira we can create a pair of pie charts that show the bowling efficiencies for each individual Knight Rider and Sunriser bowler. Quite appropriately, the dark purple slice below, belongs to the man who is currently wearing the Purple Cap that is given to the league’s top-wicket getter – Sunil Narine. The West Indian Spinner has 20 scalps on the season and as the only bowler to deliver the maximum amount of balls for any team this season, his 6.00 economy from 52 overs is truly an affirmation of his incredible form. In orange below is the efficiency of the leader of Hyderabad’s attack, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who has also taken 20 wickets and has posted a stellar economy of 6.53 in 50.5 overs. Either of these two will very likely exit the pitch wearing the Purple Cap.

With some tremendous recent innings, Robin Uthappa has vaulted over Glenn Maxwell to take the Orange Cap with 572 runs. With SAP Lumira we can easily chart the number of runs Uthappa has hit in every match this tournament and slice the bars to show how many of those runs were scored with boundary shots. Despite a duck and a one run innings, the right-handed veteran has recently shown powerful form, scoring 40 plus runs in his recent eight matches and has been a major factor in KKR’s six match winning streak. A huge portion of Uthappa’s runs are a result of boundaries as Orange Cap man has struck a tournament best 65 fours.

With SAP Crystal Reports we can create a grid broken down by line and length of deliveries to compare the Knight Riders best bowler, Sunil Narine, and the Sunrirers best batsman, David Warner. Narine has befuddled many bowlers with his off side back of length deliveries and his off side length balls have been rather effective as well. With 524 runs, David Warner is the tournament’s third highest scorer and as evidenced in the graphic below he has stuck really well against almost all of the types of deliveries he has faced. Warner has struggled a bit with yorkers but don’t except Narine try to take advantage of this if he faces Warner, as Narine rarely utilizes yorkers.

Can KKR hang onto both the Purple and Orange Caps?
