[Cricket Results] – Indians Knock Off Royals

The Mumbai Indian easily defended their 178 run total and earned a vital pair of points in Ahmedabad. Lead by Michael Hussey and Lendi Simmons, the Indians set a lofty target on a dry pitch and then Harbhajan Singh lead a brilliant Indians’ attack that knocked the Royals back in the race for the top two playoff spots. By loading match data into SAP HANA we can create insight-laden visualizations with SAP Lumira and SAP Crystal Reports to analyze Mumbai’s victory.

With SAP Lumira we can chart the number of runs each team scored per over by creating a Manhattan chart. The Indians scored 10 or more runs in 10 of their overs and a massive final over of 17 runs turn out to be quite valuable for their attack’s defense. Mumbai’s attacked was anchored by Harbhajan Singh, who took a pair of wickets and only conceded 13 combinded runs in the 8th, 10th, 13th, and 14th overs.

By making a few quick modifications we can transform our graphic in SAP Lumira to show the number of runs each Indian’s batsman scored per ball during their opening innings. Michael Hussey and Lendi Simmons formed a fantastic century opening stand partnership before the Indian’s first wicket was taken. Note the nine fours and four maximums that Hussey in yellow and Simmons in green struck to establish MI’s powerful innings. Unbeaten Rohit Sharma, in orange below, tacked on a big 40 runs in only 19 balls to empathically concluded the Indians’ innings.

Last year’s Orange Cap winner finally found his vaunted batting form, as Hussey’s 56 run performance earned the Australian national the Man of the Match honor. With SAP Crystal Reports we can create a wagon wheel to show the length, trajectory, and result of each of Hussey’s 31 shots. Facing only 39 balls Hussey made productive contact with a vast majority of them and sending a bevy of singles to his right. Hussey pulled both of his sixes and his sudden reemergence has breathed some life into Mumbai.
