[Cricket Results] – Super Kings Advance with Clinical Chase

The Chennai Super Kings clinically overhauled the Mumbai Indian’s total of 173 runs to advanced the second qualifier match. In a rematch of last year’s final the Super Kings fully enacted their revenge as they defeated the Indians for the third time this season and ended Mumbai’s miraculous run. By loading ball by ball match data into SAP HANA we can create insight-laden visualizations with SAP Lumira and SAP Crystal Reports to analyze Chennai’s seven wicket victory.

With SAP Lumira we can create a Manhattan chart to show the number of runs each team scored per over. After weathering the 67 run storm unleashed by Lendi Simmons, the Super Kings’ attack settled down and took seven wickets in the final eight overs as the Indians went from 140 for 2 in the 16th over to a final of 173 for 8. The Super Kings reached the century mark in the 12th over of their innings. Then a massive 16th over from Suresh Raina and David Hussey knocked Chennai’s asking rate below 5.50, as the unbeaten pair cruised in surpassing the target in the 19th over.

By creating a geographic hierarchy of the batting teams’ region we can create pie charts of the percentage of batsmen runs that each individual batsmen scored in the match that are overlaid on a map of the Indian subcontinent. The large orange and purple slices of Mumbai’s pie chart belong to Lendi Simmons and Michael Hussey who scored 67 and 39 runs respectively and accounted for over 60 percent of Mumbai’s batsmen runs. The highlighted red slice below belongs to Chennai’s Suresh Raina, who’s 54 runs accounted for nearly a third of the Super Kings’ batsmen’s runs.

Suresh Raina’s 54 runs on 33 balls earned the southpaw the Man of the Match honor. With SAP Crystal Reports we can create a wagon wheel that shows the line, length, and result of each of Raina’s 26 run scoring shot. Raina scored a good portion of his runs with on drive shots including one of his maximums and three of his four fours.
