One of the announcements that I’m most excited about for Sapphire is the HANA Cloud Platform (HCP) spring edition. HCP is the key to SAP’s future – it is that simple and HCP has been at the epicenter of a lot of news lately regarding that whole Apple + SAP thing you may have heard about.
Regarding our partnership announcement with Apple, we’ll be building an SAP specific native SDK for iOS which which leverages HCP for access to and integration with the entire SAP application and data landscape. Of course we also plan on delivering training for developers as well via an SAP iOS academy online…also powered by HCP! You might wonder why we are extending our user experience innovation beyond the browser to a platform specific environment like iOS. The answer to that is it will enable companies and developers to quickly build their own native apps for iPhone and iPad then put those apps to work.
Think about the potential of being able to truly run your business from your phone. That doesn’t happen if you just have access to data…you need access to and control of business processes. THAT’S what we’re delivering.
Now without any further ado, let’s dive deeper into what’s new in the 2016 HCP Spring edition.
Any SAP application that you have, be it on-premise or in the cloud – SuccessFactors, Ariba, ERP, etc. – can easily be extended using the HANA Cloud Platform. In fact, to make it even easier, we already have hundreds of HCP apps built by third parties that snap into Successfactors, Ariba, Concur, Cloud for Customer, etc. available on SAPAppCenter.com, enabling your organization to get instant value from HCP and enhance the business applications you already have! What I like is that we include capabilities such as user single sign-on, access governance, a common user experience, and automatic provisioning of HCP services, all out of the box.
Before I move on, there are two extension scenarios I want to highlight. First, the S/4HANA extensions on HCP allow users to extend S/4HANA as well as add new capabilities and delivery methods to tablets and smartphones. Second, the SAP HANA Cloud Platform extension package for SuccessFactors makes it faster and easier for companies to add new HR capabilities that integrate with existing business processes you’ve already defined.
These app extensions built on HCP I’ve mentioned aren’t all built by SAP either…our partner ecosystem has delivered big time on building new apps and app extensions on HCP. In fact, we have nearly 1,000 ready-to-deploy HCP apps and extensions available to customers on the aforementioned SAPAppCenter.com (which you should check out as soon as you finish reading this). Some mentionables amongst many are the IBM Industry Mobile Apps, which use the SAP HANA Cloud Platform to connect to SAP on-premises systems to deliver personalized and high quality customer service on tablets and smartphones, and MacroMicro OrgInsight, which provides a new way for senior executives and human resources professionals to analyze, understand and optimize their workforce.
Please do take the time to check out SAPAppCenter.com. It’s worth it, I promise!
New Services, New Business Applications
The HCP spring edition also includes new services that highlight SAP’s support of open source software, expedite integration of SAP apps, enable innovation of new Internet of Things (IoT) apps, power predictive apps and accelerate deployment of apps to any device with modern, role-based user interfaces:
Last but not least I want to dig deeper on an app that I think truly demonstrates the impact of technology on peoples’ lives. SAP Foundation for Health helps physicians and researchers analyze patient information such as biomedical data, electronic medical records and clinical trials to identify trends and correlations for specific patient populations which helps uncover medical insights to develop targeted drugs, devices and services. This in turn drives the stuff we’ve heard about for years but not yet seen…true personalized medicine. As a Type 1 diabetic myself, I can’t emphasize enough how beneficial this kind of application can be to organizations fighting chronic diseases. Just imagine the impact this could have – connecting millions of patients throughout the world with the right treatment – making people’s live better…maybe even saving people lives!
To sum it up, I have said it before and I’ll say it again. SAP HANA Cloud Platform is the key to SAP’s future. From all the innovations I mentioned in here, it’s pretty obvious that HCP touches so many important aspects of the SAP world and by extension, benefits you! More importantly, it’s driving SAP’s strategy of helping the world run better. Now I just have one reminder before I sign off…please check out SAPAppCenter.com and tell me what you think. I promise I will listen and we’ll make it even better than it already is!
