With SAP SAPPHIRE NOW 2017 just around the corner, there are a multitude of exciting product announcements to make their way. Announcements in the area of Business Applications, Analytics, Industries plus Partner innovations are sure to keep everyone excited and enthused going in and coming out of the event! One area I’m quite excited about is SAP BW/4HANA and the innovations surrounding SAP Business Planning and Consolidation (SAP BPC) and how they are coming together.

SAP BW/4HANA + SAP BPC
At SAPPHIRE NOW, for those customers interested in harnessing the power of the next-generation SAP BW/4HANA, we’ll be showcasing at the EPM focused booths in the Analytics Campus and the LOB Finance Campus the next generation SAP BPC, version for SAP BW/4HANA. This brings together the power of the modern data-warehouse with the EPM innovations that will take the Office of the CFO and Finance overall into the future. We all know what SAP BW/4HANA brings to the table – a simpler, faster, and more flexible data warehouse. The structures have been vastly simplified, the ability to integrate data from SAP and non-SAP sources provide a single source of truth, larger volumes can be handled, and the ability to have this available in the cloud and/or on-premise.

Optimized for Today’s Data Volumes
SAP BPC is ready to take advantage of these innovations. Further optimized for SAP HANA because of the underlying SAP BW/4HANA platform, customers will be able to work with larger volumes of data for Planning, Forecasting and Consolidations but on a faster scale. I think back to the days of Planning about 20 years ago when customers involved in replicating complex business scenarios due to limitations consistently compromised on Performance and Data Volumes. Today we can say with the power of SAP BW/4HANA as the underlying engine we’ve eliminated those performance limitations. With this next generation data warehouse the opportunities to model scenarios are endless. My feeling is that this will spark a new wave of thinking for the office of the CFO. We’re no longer limited to simple scenarios based on a P&L. We can integrate all parts of the business through the data integration regardless of back end system, we can leverage big data as part of the planning process and engage with better metrics, we can consolidate faster and quicker, quite frankly we open the enterprise up to thinking beyond current norms and beyond the limitations of the past 20 years which still hamper most finance folks.

A Game Changer
This new release of SAP BPC will come equipped with a brand new user interface. Cloud usage will also be an option through various vendors including SAP HEC and AWS. Modern Analytics will also be leveraged as there will be seamless integration of data between SAP BPC and SAP Analytics Cloud, to allow users to extend planning models and additionally drive self service visualization and predictive forecasting. This new SAP BPC release with SAP BW/4HANA is poised to be quite the game changer for the office of the CFO and their ability to be a business partner. With all the tools at their disposal, gone are the days when finance responds with “I’ll get back to you” and now they can lead and help drive business decisions.

I hope to see you at SAP SAPPHIRE NOW 2017 in Orlando and I encourage you to come visit us at the various booths where you can engage in deep expert led discussions as well as get a sneak preview of this latest version of SAP BPC. At the Analytics Campus please come to Demo Station 511 and if you’re visiting the LOB Finance Campus, please come see us at Demo Station 347. Looking forward to seeing you then!
