Attendees of SAPPHIRE NOW in Orlando can agree that the show had a palpable feel of urgency this year. Companies that have waited to start their journey to digital transformation are no longer in a position to consider it – the time is NOW, and there’s not a minute to lose. This was underscored by the launch of SAP Leonardo, a digital innovation system that integrates the latest technologies to enable innovation at scale. For companies that followed the call to digital years ago, Leonardo is the next step to making the most of your digital operations. For those who didn’t – well, based on the lines for the Leonardo demo snaking through the convention center – the competition is onto you.
My group, SAP Database and Data Management, houses some of the most important technology in the SAP portfolio: SAP HANA. HANA is the core of the Modern Data Platform, which enables companies to develop a solid core and innovate at the edge. I gave a broad overview of the Modern Data Platform in a Live Business Theater keynote at the show:

In addition, I spoke with Dion Hinchcliffe, an internationally recognized business strategist, enterprise architect, transformation consultant, and analyst, on the show floor about the implications of investing in the Modern Data Platform (note: video quality is optimized when accessed through Chrome):

I didn’t have all the fun. My colleagues Chris Hallenbeck, head of Go-to-Market for SAP Database and Data Management, and Franz Faerber, Executive Vice President of Database and Data Management, both presented on the Live Business Theater stage as well.
Chris interviewed winners of the HANA Innovation Award, which celebrates customers and partners that are running HANA in an innovative way. Watch his session and Be Inspired by the Winners of the SAP HANA Innovation Award. Chris also gave an overview of SAP HANA 2, our Next-Generation In-Memory Platform, exploring how Intel’s next-generation nonvolatile memory is transforming massive volumes of data into real-time insight even faster. Franz presented on how to Drive Business Value with Big Data and Find Out What’s Now and What’s Next from SAP, with details of how to store, manage, compute, and integrate todays mountains of Big Data. These three sessions are can’t-misses for anyone managing data today (read: everyone!).
What were your takeaways from this year’s SAPPHIRE?
